Australian Dance Vision and The Ballet Society NSW Forge Collaboration to Support Ballet Education and Engagement

1 July 2024 | MEDIA RELEASE

Australian Dance Vision (ADV) is proud to announce a collaboration with The Ballet Society NSW (TBS) aimed at fostering ballet education and enriching cultural experiences.

Initiated in late 2023, both organisations intend to support dance careers from grassroots dancers through to The Australian Ballet alumni by improving education and career options awareness to both intending and post professional dancers.

Sundays with The Ballet Society is one such collaboration. The exceptional, Vicki Attard, former Principal Artist with The Australian Ballet and Australian Dance Vision Ambassador, will be taking an adult classical ballet class on the last Sunday of the month at the studios at 3Danks Street. This is followed by a sound bath with Tida Happy Yogi, yoga teacher and sound healer.

Vicki commented, “Sundays with The Ballet Society is such a wonderful way to spend the morning, in a beautiful space with other like-minded dancers. Ballet brings so many benefits to our body and mind and ignites the spirit. You will walk away from the morning feeling great!”

I am honoured to be supporting two organisations that have a special place in my heart. My ambassadorship with Australian Dance Vision is long-standing and my affiliation with the Ballet Society NSW stems back to my career with The Australian Ballet”.

Recent events have showcased the valuable collaboration between ADV and TBS, marking significant milestones in the ballet community. Last year, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Australian Dance Vision and the 60th anniversary of The Australian Ballet, the “toast to Australian Ballet” event, welcomed esteemed alumni from The Australian Ballet and six prestigious ballet schools. Over 100 attendees, including representatives from various ballet schools, joined the festivities.

In a statement, The Ballet Society expressed gratitude for the generous sponsorship provided by Penny Lancaster, founder of Australian Dance Vision, who, with husband John, has been instrumental in advocating for “education in ballet”. TBS looks forward to introducing more individuals to ADV and the invaluable contributions it has made to the ballet community.

Greg Khoury, former TBS president, introducing Fiona Thornton, the incoming TBS President, delivered a poignant speech during the event, emphasising the significance of collaboration in preserving and promoting ballet as an art form with a focus on dancer alumni and future careers beyond performing.

Tonight, this event and the series of special events next year have been made possible in part by the support of allies such as Penny and John Lancaster, from Australian Dance Vision – and themselves trailblazers in Ballet and the furtherance of Ballet education and its incorporation into our formal education system. I look forward to introducing many of you to Penny and John.”

Through this collaboration, Australian Dance Vision and The Ballet Society reaffirm their dedication to nurturing talent, preserving heritage, and enriching communities through the art of ballet.
