Learning Strategies (Syllabus)

Learning Strategies

Learning strategies are a VET (Vocational Education & Training) term for syllabus. They are designed to provide competencies for dance education and a basis for assessment. They provide a framework for teaching and learning a movement vocabulary within which teachers may create original work. ADV as the original vocational RTO, introduced the concept of competencies, learning outcomes and assessment criteria into the current modules to align ADV with the Australian Quality Training Framework and terminology. Now ADi, this material lives on in the new competencies administered by ADi for Certificates I-IV in Dance. Each curriculum contains an age based progression from one level (competency) to the next. This allows for both physical and mental development from beginners to pre-professional levels and is paced to suit the formative years of a young dancer's physical and cognitive development. Each strategy includes:

  • A comprehensive approach to dance education
  • Safe Dance
  • Technical Skills and Knowledge
  • Solo Performance
  • Creative Components
  • Musical Knowledge
  • Dance History
  • Basic Body Science
  • Dance Terms & Vocabulary
  • Understanding of body alignment and stage directions and terminology
  • Attitude component including cooperative learning processes
  • Good preparation for educational school dance (see VET in Schools)
  • Communication sessions on career options in dance
